Gili DragonFyre Eco-Lodge Frees Doves & Breathes Fire for Eroding Indonesian Atoll
New Eco-Generation Corporate and Private Donors Sought for USD$6.1M (€4M EUR)
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif., August 9, 2008 - Gili DragonFyre (www.gilidragonfyre.com), a California, USA 501(c)(3) (in application) Eco-Trust, commenced fundraising of USD$6.1M (€4M EUR) to purchase 4.2 acres (1.7 hectares) of Gili Air's dynamited coral reefs and 360ft (120m) of eroding white-sand beach for an eco-lodge construction.
Is Paradise Worth Saving? Arcing away from the northwestern shore of Lombok, Indonesia lie three idyllic atolls in sparkling waters with pure white sand. A distant Balinese volcano looms above orange-glowing sunsets. No cars or motorcycles are allowed - just birds and butterflies. Horse back around the island in an hour as surfers ride left-and-right breaks offshore. Below, scuba divers and giant sea turtles tease monster clams regrown on BioRock coral reefs.
What Can Be Done? Gili Air can reclaim the seven meters of eroded beach lost in 2008 with solar-powered, desalinated, drip-watered native plantings. Sand can be poured over enormous rolls of criss-crossing hemp nets. Coral reefs can be regrown with electricity. Tropical fish, fed with bananas, assist the marine eco-system rejuvenation. And daily barge deliveries of sand will slowly raise the low-lying atoll.
Fire-Breathing Dragons & White Doves. To kickoff the eco-lodge fundraising, FreeTibetans.Org released seven 'doves of peace' atop the waterfall at the Tibetan Zen fire vacation rental in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Monterey County. The DragonFyre mascot, a 4 foot metal dragon, belched flames later that night in tandem with the fire dancers' performance. Donations for the Big Sur Fire Relief Fund, an orphaned cheetah at the Harnas Wildlife Foundation in Namibia, Africa as well as the Carmel Heritage Society were also accepted.
"After adventure backpacking to over 70 countries, I fell in love with Gili Air during my first visit a couple of months ago," said Paul Falworth, GiliDragonFyre's founder and principal of Quest Assignments, LLC which provided pro-bono brand design services. "I'd like to inspire the new eco-generation of corporate and private donors to make a real difference."
The fundraising party was sponsored by VooDooMon Productions - a film development and brand co-licensing company based in Silicon Valley, California. Their forthcoming science-fiction script, 13th Zodiac, (Blade Runner meets Matrix with gravity quakes) has a horse riding scene scripted for Carmel Beach. The location for the charity event was provided by Carmel-by-the-Sea Rentals with an auction of hand-blown glass donated by Paul Falworth GlassSmithing Studios.
Gili DragonFyre hopes to fundraise from corporate and private 'green' donors. Eco-trust board seats are available for donations exceeding USD$1M (€630k EUR).
